Bigsby goes oceanside to Santa Monica!

TV stars, congested traffic, and ocean breezes were just a small part of the Texas Amigos guitar show this last weekend August 7-8. The beauiful Santa Monica Civic Auditorium played host to this annual show. As this was our first visit to southern California for a show, hearing the amazing Bigsby stories from folks was wonderful. Thanks everyone who stopped by to share your personal Bigsby history! Dozens of dealers featured hundreds upon hundreds of rare and unique instruments from days gone by. Believe it or not, an orignal Paul Bigsby made solidbody graced the show floor. Judging by the date/serial number its likely that it was the second one made just after Merle Travis’!  Along with the great Bigsby guitar were many other unique treasures including this Lonnie Mack Flying V and Traveling Wilburys signed Gretsch 6120.  Hope to see you in 2011!

We’re off to see the……Kansas City guitar show!

In the land of cyclones, fairy godmothers, and ruby red shoes popped up a new guitar show. This last weekend, July 24-25, didn’t see any wicked witches-but rather a multitude of fine vintage instruments.  The Adams Pointe Convention Center in Blue Springs, MO was host to the newest Texas Amigos guitar show. We were on hand for this inagural event and had a great time sharing our wares and demonstrating how YOU can install a Bigsby vibrato on your instrument.   It was also great to hear of and learn of all the stories of players in the area who have played original Bigsby instruments. Kansas City has (and has had) quite a lively musical community. Thanks to all who stopped by, visited, and shared your stories! It was a great first show and we’re looking forward to 2011!

Bigsby at the Playboy Mansion?

What does a Bigsby B5 have in common with Hugh Hefner? We weren’t exactly sure either, but then we found this video. From a bygone era of after dinner cocktails with a rock band playing in your lounge, comes a guitar lesson of sorts from Ritchie Blackmore. Sporting a snazzy suit and pipe, Mr. Hefner borrows Blackmore’s guitar for a quick lesson before deciding he should probably stay with his day…or in this case, Playboy After Dark job. From American TV in 1968, Deep Purple performs its first hit “Hush”.  As Hef says: its really gonna ‘groove the kids’! Enjoy!

2010 Summer NAMM!

Nashville, TN–Music City U.S.A.– was the place to be for the 2010 summer NAMM show held June 18-20. What had previously been an industry only trade show was shaken up a bit this year. This show featured ‘Wanna Play Music Sunday’. Not only was the day open to the public, but also hosted events including a Vintage Guitar Road Show, drum circle, and an All Star Celebrity Jam. The Celebrity Jam Concert featured many artists including former Governor Mike Huckabee, Aaron Tippin, Louise Mandrell and many others.  The Summer NAMM show hosted 383 companies and 12,463 registered visitors-not including the public on Sunday! Bigsby vibratos were featured all around the show on a diverse range of guitars from a host of manufactures. A great turnout indeed! Visitors to the Bigsby booth were treated to many demonstrations including the Classic Vibe Telecaster with B5 and Sheraton II with B7G shown here.
